What happens to your old computers, monitors, keyboards, mouse etc once you’ve upgraded to the latest model, are you just taking them to the local landfill?. This article will outline the hazards with computer recycling and what should be done with your old computers once you have upgraded.

What’s the big deal anyway the old computers can just go out with all our other rubbish. The biggest concern is with CRTs and the monitors they contain approximately 4 pounds of lead per unit. The lead cannot be physically broken down like other waste and over time the whole landfill will become contaminated from the lead toxin’s.

I think we know all the dangers associated with lead poisoning and the health problems that can occur including:

o Learning disabilities
o Behaviour problems
o High doses of lead has been present
o Seizures
o Comma
o Death

If that’s not enough there is also lead toxins seeping into local streams from the computers being dumped at the local landfill, no wonder the planet is in dire need of repair.

The right way to dispose of these environmental hazards is to check with your community to see if there is a program set up to receive older CRTs and TVs for recycling. Where I live there is a central point where we could go to drop of all our old computers and electronic gadgets that we no longer wanted or needed.

No matter what the item is that you want to recycle, there is a way to do it, all you need to do is make a phone call or two and you will have done your part to follow the recycling laws, and do your bit to help clean up the planet. So that about raps up this article, next time you upgrade to that brand new computer do the right thing and recycle that old computer and any unwanted gadgets.

If you are trying to set up your website and having a hard time in finding the right people to hire to develop it, then go to cheap domain name. They will help you create the best possible website.

Is your computer too slow? One thing about computers is that they tend to slow down after a few years of use. This could happen to anyone and any brand of personal computer. This is just normal don’t get mad at your PC and throw it away just yet. You can still do something about it and the good news is you only need a few steps to speed up your computer.

One reason why most computers slow down is because of all the files and out of date programs. To clear up some space you need to uninstall all software or programs that you no longer use. You can do this by clicking on start, choose control panel and then click on add and remove programs. Select all the programs that are no longer useful and remove them all.

After clearing all unnecessary programs the next thing to delete are your old files, videos, music and photos. To do this, click on my documents, browse through your docs and select everything that you do not need anymore. However be careful in deleting some documents, make sure you check them all before deleting. You might need some of the files in the future. After ridding yourself from all the needless documents, browse your photos, music and videos.

Scrub out everything that does not mean anything to you anymore. Delete videos you’ve already watched, songs you no longer want to listen to and pictures you do not want to see again anymore. You will be surprised on how much space it will give you.

Scan your Windows registry and fix it if necessary. If you are not familiar with the windows registry it is like a database of all the things you had created, and installed on your computer on a daily basis. Eventually errors in the registry will cause broken file extensions, missing files and worse, you may have viruses hidden away in there. When this happens, it might cause your PC to slow down, shut down, freeze, and all the other usual problems in a computer your computer will be too slow.

What you can do to solve this issue is to scan your PC using a trusted and reliable registry scanner. Just be sure to download a good one since some programs can also damage your computer. After doing all these things you can now see and feel the difference. You can now enjoy again your computer again and stop wondering if it is going to freeze on you.

Anyone that has ever owned a computer has either heard about or experienced a computer virus. Livescience.com recently reported that “before the month is even done, April has set a record for virus emails.”

Gone are the days when new computer users were told about the rarity of viruses and that there was no need to worry. Countless news reports have since validated the worry over computer viruses, but what exactly is a virus?

Basically a computer virus is a software program designed to destroy or steal data. These viruses are most often sent through email attachments, software downloads, and some types of advanced web scripting. Different viruses cause different types of damage to your computer; Trojan horses destroy data, bombs explode through your system, and worms duplicate themselves, destroying or corrupting data as they go. These viruses can be combined into even more deadly forms but they can usually be identified by their location on your computer.

Boot Sector Virus – Most early forms of virus were boot sector because it required a removable device such as a floppy disk or CD to reach your machine. These viruses activate when you reboot your system and will infect any other floppies inserted afterwards. They have the potential to take up memory or freeze your system.

File Virus – This is a virus that infects other files on your system. Otherwise known as the ‘classic’ form of virus, it is also the most common and easiest to distribute. Some forms of file virus are able to hide themselves by changing aspects of their code with each infection.

Multipart Virus – This file infects both the boot sector and files. These types of viruses were fairly common when most computers operated on a DOS system but declined when integrated operating systems became the norm.

Who created the first virus and why remains a mystery; however, one virus programmer was willing to explain the motivation behind his destruction. According to this programmer, a popular online service (which will remain unnamed) failed to provide quality protection for children against what he considered to be online smut. To retaliate, he created and distributed a virus to as many file libraries of this service as he could find. His intention: to disable the computers of the people using this service, preventing them from connecting to the internet for days at a time, thus causing the service to lose revenue and customers.

Did it work? Somewhat. A small percentage of users were affected but the company in question is still alive and well, doing business today. Despite the programmers worthy intentions to save children from things best left unseen, his efforts were futile. There are probably many well intentioned motives for creating and distributing a virus, none of which take into account the damage done to an innocent bystander through a virus programmers ‘good intentions’.

What can be done if you have a virus? To protect from getting or cleaning out an existing virus, an antivirus utility is needed. There are many of these available today but maybe there is another way. Education and Communication are the key. Perhaps educating the people creating the viruses about the damage done to innocent people and providing a way to communicate their dissatisfaction effectively will reduce the news stories and protect investments.

In August of 2003 an 18 year old teen was arrested for springing a version of the MSBlaster worm to internet computers by the millions. It is thought that he may have even triggered the blackout that occurred in the US and Canada in that same period.

Only yesterday someone else released a Zotob worm on computers with Windows 2000 operating systems. Big boys like CNN, The Associated Press and The New York Times were all adversely affected. It is said that little permanent damage was done but the systems of these major companies were brought to a screeching halt as computers kept shutting down and rebooting as if little gremlins had their hands on the switch.

Where does it end? As if the computers and the software weren’t expensive enough then it becomes the business and expense of everyone to protect the computer. We need blocks to keep the porn away from the kids. We need blockers to keep the incessant ads from popping up in our faces every nanosecond. Then bring on the personal firewalls the anti-virus software, encryptions, spyware stoppers and perhaps a dose or two of antihistamine to keep our noses clear of the dust that goes airborne from the cooling fans when we start up. It takes no computer genius to know at least two things. One is that the next big operating system will cost a great deal more than our last one. The other is that it will not have the many deterrents and blockers we need, built in. Security must be a wonderful business to be in these days.

To get back to the hack, (no rap intended) where does this breed of cyber-monkey come from? Personally, I envision a teenager locked in his upstairs room with dozens of empty Coke cans and Twinkie wrappers strewn across the floor. With a blank stare fully hypnotized by the Xs and Os dancing across the plasma screen they peck and stab at the keyboard with deliberate, rhythmic intent as if they were submitting to a spirit that gave them auto writing skills as a reward for their simple acquiescence. Then when the cyber moon lines up with the planets they know its time. With one click of the enter key they take down the power in half the United States and transfer the funds of millions of Americans to accounts in the Netherlands. How could you stop this person? Would a simple ‘Hey, it’s a nice day why don’t you go outside and find something to do’ set them off in a new direction?

As a boy our weekly Sunday edition of the paper had a special section in the funnies called, Jimmy Halto’s, “They’ll do it every Time.” Jimmy would point out various absurdities in our society that may occur from time to time. I never anticipated that the day would come when our entire society would become absurd, If Halto were still punching out his weekly syndication today it might be called, “They’ll Do It Once in a While” and it could depict those few normal things that pop up now and then. Like, kids who do go outside and look for something else to do.

We have terrorist alerts to watch for now along with neighborhood watches to help bring down the crime just outside our doors. Add to that a school system that has to use metal detectors, cops, sniffing dogs and cameras just to get the kids through one day of school.

Night time activities almost anywhere USA have now brought dangers that are off the scale. As if all this danger outside wasn’t bad enough now we have to find ways to plan counter moves against hackers who are probably sitting in our own houses plotting the next big blackout or something worse.

Even if I weren’t a preacher of the gospel I would find it hard not to think of a biblical warning about the way things will be in the last days. “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and looking for those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

What is an Internet Computer TV Software?

This is basically a software that enables you to watch satellite TV via your computer. The computer TV softwares are configured to automatically access the internet websites of TV networks, logging you in to video and audio TV streaming via the internet.

The nature of online TV is that it is global and therefore is available all over the world. Likewise, there are over 70 different countries TV networks featured in any one satellite TV software for computers. What then this does for you is avail over 3,000 free world TV tuner stations at the touch of a mouse.

How do I get TV on my computer?

There are three main ways that you can view computer on TV.

Computer to TV Connector by Using Free TV Online Websites

The first and absolutely free way to display computer on TV is by accessing the free online TV websites. There are several websites that offer free satellite TV for PC including beeline.com, channelchooser.com and many others.

Due to the large number of people looking for free TV, these websites are usually congested and you will be lucky to watch free online TV for more than 10 minutes straight. You could give it a shot after reading this article just to make sure.

Free TV on computer through installing PC TV cards

The other method get TV on your computer is by buying one of those PC TV cards. These are slotted into your computer and come with an inbuilt TV tuner toolbar that you activate by use of a special PCTV software. If you have no knowledge on the internal workings of your computer hard drives, you will be better off hiring the services of a computer technician to manually install the PCTV card.

An external aerial is required in order to receive the TV signals from satellite transmitter stations. The broadcasts you will receive are mostly Free-To-Air TV channels but at least you will be able to capture such news channels like BBC, CNN, ABC, CBS and FOX News.

Computer TV software-What are they and how do they work?

The last method that you can watch TV on your computer monitor is by download of a computer TV software. This is the more recent development that enables you to capture satellite TV through the internet. Unlike the free online TV websites, this method of accessing TV online is not congested.

You are able to watch seamless video and audio TV streaming from many global countries. This method of watching internet TV is especially useful to people living ways from home in a third country.

The Computer TV softwares are especially a favorite with Expats, travelers, people on mission work in Africa, diplomats, and immigrants to the USA. The TV softwares for computer offer over 3000 TV channels to chose from and TV is available in over 70 languages.

Finding some good information on the latest PC games can be quite a difficult task. I’ve tried to do a Google search with the key words ‘latest PC games’ or ‘current PC games’. I got thousands of replies but most of them were not what I was looking for. I’ve been keen on playing PC games for a long time and I’ve always found it hard to come across any decent sites giving updated information about the latest PC games. Nowadays all the attention goes to gaming consoles and thus, finding news on computer games is getting harder and harder.

Probably the most popular gaming platform are computers. So you can look for the latest PC games on websites devoted to them. It is not really difficult to find lists of new games and their prices but it is a couple of times harder to find any good sites which offer reviews about the newest PC games. If I have to recommend you some sites I’d suggest you had a look on my personal favourite ones – Gamespot, Gamespy, IGN, and Gamezone.

You can always find recent reviews of the lastest PC games on them, as well as some information on the most popular and newest console videogames. Even though I sometimes fully disagree with the reviews published, I still believe they are useful, at least you can get some basic info about the game, for example what it’s genre is. In my case, if it’s not one of the types I like, I don’t purchase it and save some money. If I have genuine interest in a particular game I usually read at least a couple of reviews on different sites about it. That way I get all the information I need before going to the store and buying it.

One of the reasons why you should try to get as many reviews as possible about a PC game before purchasing it is because the price of the latest games varies about $50 per title. I cannot imagine anything worse than spending your hard-earned money on a new PC game which might turn out to be a beta program filled with bugs, a game with a poorly conceived plot. However, it is true that most of the latest PC games are no good, as the standard is getting lower and lower.

Being completely honest, I have to admit that from time to time even nowadays a real treasure comes out of the blue. This gem gets much more appreciation and popularity now because the rest of the new PC games are not worth it. I try to regularly check for news on the latest PC games on varies sites with the only hope to find and buy one of these gems.

Last year my computer was one of the first to get hit by a new Trojan virus. We visited the wrong website or downloaded something that had the Trojan virus embedded into it. We almost lost our computer and everything in it. Thank goodness we back up our computer every night. The Trojan virus was so new that our computer anti-virus security did not know how to fight it. We actually had to contact the people who produced our anti-virus security software and provided us with daily updates. We gave them access and control of our computer. They managed to lock down the virus, stopping it from affecting out computer any further.

They immediately set about sending out an update that would simply block this virus from infecting other computers using their anti-virus security. They let us know that our computer would be infected for a bit, but that it was contained and would not be able to do any more damage. Once they had found a way to kill the virus they would send us an update and that would clean our system.

The Trojan we got hit with was designed to damage our computer. It was programmed to destroy data. There are other types of Trojans. Some are programmed to give a third party remote access to your computer. This is considered a remote administration Trojan. This can be to see your information or just to mess around with it. It is often used to steal passwords or change the victim’s registry. As well as upload, download, execute files and more. Scary thought is that they can actually turn on a web cam and see what you are doing anytime.

A downloader/dropper is one that whole purpose is to download a different program onto your computer.

Usually a remote administration Trojan program is what they download to your computer. A server Trojan creates a file server on the victim’s computer. This lets the hacker upload or download files. A server Trojan is often used to upload a remote administration Trojan, giving control of your computer to the hacker. Another type of Trojan used to do this is one designed to disable security software. It lets the hacker get in past your security, usually with the intent to download a remote administration program.

There is one unusual type of Trojan going around. The purpose is not to destroy your data or to get control of your computer to get your information. No it is about getting control of your and many other computers so that at a specific time they all attach a third parties computer. This was done to yahoo.com not that long ago.

If you’ve never been the victim of a computer virus, you may think that all of the uproar over these nasty little programs is making much ado out of nothing. You may even be thinking that computer security experts and anti-virus companies are using scare tactics to sell anti-virus software. After all, the bigger the problem, the more software people buy. Today, the anti-virus business is worth several billion dollars and it shows no sign of slowing down.

So, with all of this money at risk, you are certainly justified in wondering whether computer viruses really are as big a problem as the industry says they are.

Unfortunately, the answer is that they absolutely are. If you get a virus, you could actually lose your money, your identity and your computer’s hard drive. With new viruses being developed constantly, the problem continues to grow. While many viruses are more annoying than destructive, even a “harmless” virus can use up valuable resources. The worst viruses can spread worldwide in a few days and wreak unbelievable havoc. The damage from one infamous virus can mean billions of dollars in lost business opportunities and damaged equipment.

With all of this bad news, is there any good news for computer users? Take this quick risk quiz:

1. Does your computer have antivirus software installed on it?

If you can say yes, you are much less a risk than people that don’t have antivirus software. If you say no, than it is only a matter of time until you find out about viruses personally.

2. Does your computer have a firewall installed on it?
If your response is yes again, you can relax a bit. You’re doing all you can do software wise to keep your computer safe from a deadly virus. If you say no again, you are leaving your computer wide open for an attack.

Despite all of the media attention paid to antivirus software, people still have the “It can’t happen to me.” mentality. They laugh off warnings to protect their computers and say that they are working just fine. They think that because they never actually initiate a file download or send and receive files with friends, they are safe. A few months go by and suddenly they can’t get their computers to boot up forever and then when they finally do start, they plod along at a snail’s pace.

To make things worse, quite a few of these computer users who leave their computers unprotected are actually taking classes for computer related careers. They are completely at sea when they have to try to repair the damage caused by a virus filled computer. Perhaps a basic class on computer care and repair is in order!

You are probably wondering how viruses develop anyway. Hackers are the people creating these nasty bugs, right? Actually, while some hackers may decide to create computer viruses, most of them spend all of their waking hours attempting to break in to the most secure and top secret systems they can find. People who write viruses are people with an ax to grind. They want to send a wake up message or show people that they are superior to them. Today, many people are concerned that computer viruses could be used as a terrorist weapon.

If you do get a computer virus, will you lose everything on your hard drive? It actually is rare for this type of virus to spread very fast or far. Annoying viruses that stop you from starting your computer or using windows or those that mail spoof emails to your entire email address book are much more common. The hard drive is usually recoverable when the computer has one of these viruses.

What about your financial and personal information? Are viruses really likely to swipe them from the computer. Absolutely. This is a common reason that viruses are created and spread.

Is there any way to keep your computer virus free? While no anti-virus software is foolproof, installing one of these programs can provide some protection. While there are anti-virus software programs that provide better protection, any of them will help somewhat. Even free anti-virus programs are actually able to ward off at least some viruses.

After reading this information on viruses and anti-virus software, you have probably resolved to get protection for your computer right away. If so, you won’t be sorry. Dealing with viruses after you are infected is frustrating and time consuming. It is so much easier to keep a disaster from happening instead of trying to reconstruct a ton of missing data and worry about identity or financial thefts after the fact.

Most of us have a slow XP computer. We bought it recently, and have done nothing in the way of keeping it cleaned. We have bigger hard drives, so we store more stuff. And the more stuff we store, the larger the chance is we are getting bogged down. And since we are always deleting files, creating new files, installing software, and uninstalling software, we are going to have some issues where the computer gets overloaded with the data on it, and the result is a slow XP computer.

Good news, though! There is a simple fix. But before I tell you about it, let me go over some of the typical solutions you may hear.

Update the Windows system: You should do this. But this does not cause the slowness. It just helps protect you from security issues.

You have a virus: OK, this could be the cause. But most likely it is not. You should have an antivirus software installed already. If not, go do it. Viruses could get into the computer, and start launching programs and attacks from within your computer, which in turn would slow it down. But this would be very rare. This will not cause the slow XP computer.

Your computer is loaded with spyware: This can cause a slow XP computer. With all of the surfing we on the internet going on, there are some sites out there dropping cookies and things on to your computer and you don’t even know. They then track your every movement. The slowness occurs in the way of how much stuff is on your computer. So while you should be concerned, it is not the likely cause of the slow XP computer.

OK, here it is: Your slow XP computer is caused by messed up registry files. Never heard of them? That is OK. Most people have not. These little files tell the computer how to handle and process the software. When these files get messed up, the computer does not know what to do. There is an easy fix for this. Use a registry repair or cleaner, and scan your computer for corrupt or missing registry files. The software will find the problems, and then fix the problems. It will take about 10 minutes, and slowness is gone. After that, run the software weekly, and this will keep the computer optimized.

So, if you have a slow XP computer, use a registry repair software and clean your registry files. It will make all the difference, and provide you with the immediate fix you need for your slow XP computer.

The computer has become one of the most important tools in our daily lives. In fact, there are so many people all over the globe who simply can’t live without this technology. These people usually work and communicate through their compute that when their personal computer would malfunction, it would seem like the world have caved in on them.

Technically, all computer hard drives would eventually fail us. These are just hardware that could weaken with age, constant use, mishandling and worst of all, the intrusion of computer viruses that have the power to wreck havoc on our computer systems. However, the good news is that we can actually prevent our hard drive from crashing down sooner than they should. Of course these ways and means of preventing hard crashes is not foul proof as there are always some factors, which we cannot seem to control at all. However, let us look at the bright side of things.

As for viruses that are often deadly when they latch into our system, one can install effective anti virus software that detects the virus as it try to enter into our system. We can install firewalls to create a barrier and prevent intruders from entering into our systems. If we can keep out the viruses from our hard drives, our files will be safe.

Now, viruses are not the only threats to our hard drives. Overheating could also cause our hard drives to malfunction and damage our files. Although in the past, over heating of the hard drive may not be very noticeable as our computers are still using lower speed, the new models of computers are processing data at very high speed that overheating of the drives in now becoming a threat.

Although our present day computers are equipped with built in fans and cooling system, the speed at which our present day computer process data could raise the temperature in the hard drive to about 70 degrees F. Such temperatures could cause computer crashes as some of the parts of the computer would melt under the heat. The bad news about this situation is that is would be very difficult, in fact it is nearly impossible to recover data in hard drives that crash down due to extreme heat.

To prevent your computer from over heating, you should make sure that the cooling system thereof is functioning properly. Make sure after you use your computer for sometime, you will allow the hard drives to cool off. It would also be a good idea to provide additional ventilation to your computer if you are going to use it for a prolonged period of time in a single setting. You may also get one of those monitoring software tools to alert you in case your computer have reached a critical level of heat.
